My husband and I thought that the meal deal sounded like a great idea but I have to admit, we didn't research it as much as we did the rest of our vacation.

The meal "deal" is hardly a deal. Of all the restaurants on Universal's property, only five are covered under the meal deal. The food NEVER varies from day to day, it is always fried chicken, fries, spagetti and meat balls, cheese or pepperoni pizza (no other choice) and "chinese food." I am vegetarian and of the entire park, I had the choice of veggie burger, tuna salad or cheese pizza. The deserts never vary either: cookie, chocolate slice, or jello with whipped topping. Also, for it to be worth the $20, we would have had to eat at least 3 meals a day (each meal is around $7), but they don't do breakfast and we were never at the park long enough to be hungry for 3 portions of vile fried food.

Overall, its a major rip-off and even if you like eating food, you won't like eating this food ALL DAY LONG.

Visited November 9-11. Dh & I both in 40's, Three daughters 21 (almost 22), 171/2 and 15. Purchased tickets online and loved being able to only have to wait in one line to get in. Friday the 9th arrive at IOA at 8:30 and had the park done by 2:30. No wait on almost everything. Saturday the 10th arrived at UFS at 9:00 and took most of the day to complete the park. Biggest complaint. Smokers walking thru the parks smoking. Both parks had very nice areas set up for the smokers to use and we did use a few people use them. I really wonder if the smokers that do use the proper area truly understand how much I appreciate it.

Saturday afternoon while watching Blues Brothers oldest daughter who will be 22 in 2 weeks, decides to buy a drink. She comes back with no drink and says the guy told her she had a fake I.D.. She was upset but not mad and said to let it go. As her mother I said no its not ok. I was not going to purchase any drinks from the man BUT I wanted to show him my I.D along with hers so he could see she was not showing him a fake I.D. I wait my turn in line and show him her I.D and tell him hers was NOT fake and showed him MY I.D and tell him Im her mother. He looks at my I.D. and says ... It doesnt matter I wont accept yours either because it doesnt have the proper seal.. [--]. I am 41 years old and even IF it was fake I truly look my age. I asked to speak to someone higher up and he was silent.. so I said should I go to Guest services?? and he said well yeah that might be ok. SOOO I turn and almost RUN to the front of the park to guest services. I DONT want a drink I just want them to see that OUR I.Ds are NOT FAKE.
My family had no idea where I had went. At guest services I explain the whole thing and two people looked at the I.Ds I has and agreed they were not fake. A guest service man walked with me, we found my family and then walked my daughter and I to the vendor and explained that we did have true I.D and that he needed to COMP us each a drink. Buy this time I was upset I had missed the Blues show, and was READY for a drink. I think the vendor was surprised to see me back but had expected it because he had a supervisor right there. WHERE was this supervisor when I had asked?? But its all over and ended fine. If you are from IOWA do not visit the vendor to the left of the Blues Brother show.
Walked all around City Walk on Friday night and enjoyed a free band.
Had wonderful time and will plan another trip in a few years.

I really feel I must stick up for the HHN!!! We attended again for the third year in a row and while I don't think the general atmosphere was as good as previous years, the quality of houses and shows (esp Billand Ted and rocky Horror Tribute) were great. We buy the frequent fear pass which means we can attend twice in the week we are in Orlando, we love this as it means we can take our time and enjoy the bant! Any night we have attended has been busy but not packed and the longest we waited in line this year was 30mins and that was only for one house (Dead Silence). I think that you have to be prepared for the crowds and just consider them as adding to the atmosphere! We always arrive early to park and walk straight in as the gates are opened, I really recommend this as it means you can do 3/4 houses with minimal wait then take your time at the shows, having a beer, whatever. I think that next year might allow a return to higher standards as IOA has a better layout and atmosphere for HHN so we are looking forawrd to it already!

My wife and I (both 30, no kids) visited Universal Studios (US) on Monday October 30, 2007. We went on a Monday to try and avoid the crowds. We bought our tickets online and we didn't have any trouble picking them up at the machine that looks like an ATM. They will take an electronic fingerprint when you enter the park, so that nobody but you uses your ticket for the day. We spent the second half of the day at US. See my review of Islands of Adventure for info on parking, getting to the park, etc. Getting between the 2 parks is very easy. They're connected by the City Walk area.

We purchased the Express Pass and this is highly recommended. Especially if you are planning on seeing both parks in 1 day. The Express Pass saved us about 3.5 hours of waiting in line at US alone. We walked onto MIB Alien Attack when the general wait was almost 90 minutes.

We ate lunch outside of Amity around 2 and we still had to wait about 15 minutes to get through the line (no the Express Pass doesn't work in restaurants). It was a bit pricey. $7.50 for a burger and fries. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about. I wish we'd have eaten at IOA - they seemed to have more choices than US. IOA is also just newer and looks nicer than US.

US is much harder to navigate than IOA. It doesn't help that the exit for many of the attractions puts you behind where you entered. This makes it very easy to get turned around. The signs at US also leave alot to be desired. We had to stop and ask directions a few times. The attractions aren't always marked that well either. Sometimes what just looks like a randon building or storefront is the entrance to an attraction.

See my review of Islands of Adventure for some general tips about Universal. The rest of this review will focus on some of the attractions we saw/rode.

Shrek: This is a 4-D attraction. Its in a theatre and isn't nearly as cool as Spiderman (IOA) or It's Tough to be a Bug (at Animal Kingdom). Its also a little long and you're ready for it to be over. Be advised, I'm not a huge Shrek fans. Kids may enjoy this ride more than the adults.

Men In Black Alien Attack: This is a simuator ride thats alot like a scene from MIB the movie. You ride along in a car and shoot at aliens as they appear in store windows, cars, etc. The ride keeps track of you well you shoot and keeps score. This was fun to do once, but we didn't need to ride it again.

Jaws: I've wanted to ride this since I first saw Jaws 20 years ago and it was alittle dissapointing. Its basically just a boat ride with a big shark that doesn't look very real following the boat. It seemed really dated compared to alot of the other attractions and needs to be updated. Still, its an icon and you gotta do it just to say you did.

Earthquake: You board a San Fransisco type trolly and all of a sudden an 8.3 earthquake hits. The effects are really cool, but its not very thrilling or exciting. It is interesting to see what kind of damage an 8.3 earthquake can do.

Twister: This is more of an experience than a ride. You walk into a soundstage and they simulate a tornado. If you stand in front, you'll catch some of the spray from the rain. It was ok, but again, if you're looking for thrills, this isn't it.

Revenge of the Mummy: Easily the best ride at US. Coaster buffs might say its tame, but it has a great theme and they do it up right. There are lots of surprises awaiting you. We rode it 3 times in a row we liked it so much. This will probably frighten small children as its a scary theme and some of it is in the dark.

Terminator 2 3-D: I thought this was pretty cool. My wife didn't like it as much. I guess fans of the movie will like it. Its a 3-D experience inside another theatre. It is also a somewhat long show. We walked into the staging area (thanks to the Express Pass) but half an hour had gone by by the time the staging and the show was done.

Since we don't have kids, we skipped alot of stuff at US. Jimmy Neutron, the KidsZone, etc. We also didn't care to see the rock 'n' roll review, the make up show, Fear Factor or the Lucy tribute.

One last tip. If you're planning on doing both parks in 1 day, then start with the park you think you'll like first because it will be less crowded in the morning and you'll be able to move faster. We had less time at US, but still did everything we wanted to do there.

My fiance and i visited the universal resort in may 2007 and i must say it exceeded all of our expectations! Both parks were amazing but i found that islands of adventure was easier to navigate and was alot more themed. We purchased the meal deal and thought it was great value and was actually quite cheap. The queues on some of the rides were very very long, but the attractions were well worth the wait! The Adventures of Spiderman was absolutely brilliant, unlike any other ride ive ever been on. The Revenge of the Mummy scared the hell out of me :) and i thought the E.T. ride was magical. Overall the parks were well kept and had a great atmosphere. We had no problems at all with staff although I must say they're not quite as friendly as the disney "castmembers" at walt disney world! Citywalk is great and has a good variety of shops and restaurants. We had dinner in the hard rock cafe and thought the food was very lovely and the staff were the nicest in the whole park, some even smiled! LOL .We plan to return to Universal again this summer.
