When I lived in Denton there is the street called Fry Street that has a bunch of 21+ bars and one 18+ dance club(Ricks), well.....our one 17 yr old friend had a fake ID and this place was notorious for underagers getting in. So the bouncers started flat out cutting your id in half if it wasnt you. Funniest thing I ever saw. Especially with the cops standing across the street laughing. They wouldnt do anything to the youngins who got caught, they figured the humiliation of the bouncers yelling "This aint you, your a baby, take your wanna be id outta here" and then snip! they hand ya your id back!! Very humiliating, I suppose(never happened to me)

In my experience, it depends where you are/if there are cops around. I've seen anything from the bouncer laugh at the ID and send the person on their way, to the bouncer taking away the ID because there were cops around. You've just got to be smart about it, as with anything else.

I think it also depends on if its an altered GOVERNMENT ISSUED ID or just someone whom you look like. I have been told if you alter government info(ie, rubbing out numbers on an ID or changing them with a scanner), it is a felony, but if you are just using someone else's ID, it is only a misdemeanor--no jail time! Point in case--I had a sorority sister who looked a whole lot like me, so when she turned 21, she went down to the DMV, told them she had lost her license and got a new one. Then I paid her the $10 dollars and got her old ID. It worked GREAT except we could never go to the same bars(and there are only 2 bars in Elon) because it was small enough that most of the bouncers knew both of us. But it was WONDERFUL when I would go to to other schools to see friends or be home for break. The funny thing is, that ID has now been passed on to another sister and still gets used. Its always the big joke at AOTT--who is Kelly Hayman this year???

The underage person could also take a friends photo id card and have their pic taken at the DMV.

Personally, I never used one but know lots who have.

FOr instance, when in NYC on spring break 3 of my sisters went all over the Village to get the "best" fake id.(Way too funny story as to how we found the place). It cost them a lot but was said to be authentic down to the zip codes of the place in Alabama they were to be from (I was in school in Maryland at the time). When we went out that night, those of us without ids were let in as over 21 while the bouncers took one look at their ids and got the 18 year old X.

I was told by a hotel bar in VIrginia that my actual Michigan license was fake and they refused to serve me. At that time, we didn't have the strip on the back. They ended up calling the police station and getting the book since NO ONE from Michigan could get served.

I had a fake ID once but It was made on a computer....it basically looked real and all and got me into a few places...the only thing is that our liciences have a hologram on them and you couldnt see that since it didnt have one....So as long as they didnt really check for it it all worked b/c the picture was me...the date was just altered.

-first of all, for creation of false ID documents, the law makes no differentiation between altering a real one, creating a fake one to impersonate a real one, creating a made-up one entirely, or even making a "Novelty" document. None at all, so if you alter yours, it's the same as creating a fake one.

-as far as possession of a fake . . . you see, the problem isn't usually the actual ID - it's more likely to be 'false representation of age', which makes what kind of ID you have not matter a whole hell of a lot. Generally, possession of another ID other than your own is enough to trigger this penalty, which is usually pretty low (it's generally going to be a small fine, sometimes 'points' on your license or contacting your insurance company etc). I've never even heard of the 'stiffest' penalties being enforced - usually the ID is just taken, thrown away, etc. - one guy got put on university probation, b/c a BUPD officer took it.

(Sidenote - it's not illegal to possess a non-gov't-issued ID, nor is it required by law that you carry a gov't ID document. It IS, in fact, illegal to misrepresent your age in any way, for illegal purposes. Something to chew on.)

I'd say the best way is to just not get caught - most of us should know by now the 'tricks' to getting in, or getting drinks, or whatnot at our favorite spots - just don't do anything dumb, and problems generally don't arise.

As far as getting an ID, whether a real one or whatnot - well, that's the part you should have to figure out on your own, although I suspect many people can help you figure it out if you look hard enough.

I got my fake ID taken away on New Years Eve. It was my "identical twin" from New Jersey. I spent so much time memorizing all of the different numbers that I never thought to know anything about New Jersey. The guy asks me in front of the whole store, "whats the capital of New Jersey?" I had no idea and he took it. There went my 50 bucks. Atleast people are so easily willing to give up there real idsThe next day I got a new one so I can get into the clubs again.

One of my buddies is from Michigan, and his old license looks like he made it himself. they are CHEAP! He's had a hard time with it before, but now he's got the new PVC license. I was going into a bar one time, and handed the off duty cop my license. he turns it over and says, where's the magnetic strip? i was like, um, is there one? i don't know...he got out his own license, and it didn't have a magnetic strip either. jackass. then, when my friend and I were leaving, we were waiting for our ride outside the bar. we saw a 2002 Ford Ranger, and were checking it out, and this guy(same guy) comes out of the bar and starts hassling us, thinking we were gonna break into it. that lasted about 5 minutes, and then we went back and waited right by the door to the bar, not letting our eyes stray, and our friend came and got us.

I am probably one of the few college students out there that can say I have never used a fake. All my friends who have used one have gotten caught. They're very strict in Orlando. All the downtown bars have scanners. They run the magnetic strip through it and all your info comes up. My friend knew everything on her fake ID by heart. The bouncer ran it through a scanner and asked what her SS# was. She just looked at the bouncer and grummbled, "Put an X on my hand, I'm under." At some clubs, they have police officers standing outside who will run the ID through their own scanner. EVERYTHING comes up...everything! All your tickets, DUI's. You'll have to know how many tickets you have gotten and approximately when the event took place.
About two months ago, my friend, Heather, borrowed her older sister's ID. The two are identical except that Heather's sis, Meghan, is two years older. Heather knew Meghan's SS#, how many tickets she got, the whole works. There was no way she was getting caught. The bouncer checked her ID and just when he was about to put a wristband on her one of Heather's friends who was walking by the bar happened to see her. "Heather! How are you?!" her friend called out. The bouncer looked at her and said, "I thought your name was Meghan." He cut the ID into a million shreds. Heather had to go out to the DMV the next day with her sis and pay for a new ID.
